MADERA CANYON CYCLE
In September of 2014, I began a series of drawings based on a year’s cycle of walks in Madera Canyon in far West Texas. I have hiked and explored this area for many years, and it has been a constant source of inspiration for me. My observations of the growth, resilience and diversity of the ecosystem in the mountains after a devastating wildfire led to this project. Drawn forms are layered with maps, diagrams, earth, plant materials and cochineal, a natural pigment used in Mexico for hundreds of years.
